Wrong-way Driver Seriously Injured 2 on 280 Freeway In San Jose

San Jose Wrong-Way DUI Crash Leaves Two With Serious Injuries

San Jose, California (December 28, 2016) – Two people suffered major Injuries in an early Wednesday morning three-vehicle crash triggered by a wrong-way drunk driver in San Jose, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The accident took place at about 3:30 a.m. this morning on the southbound Interstate 280 Freeway near Bird Avenue.

As per the report, the culprit, identified as Tarick Dereje, 23, of North Hollywood, was driving A Volkswagen Golf heading northbound in the southbound lanes of 280 freeways when she collided head-on with a Chevrolet Aveo causing the Aveo to spin out and struck the center median before overturning onto its roof.

The Golf was then struck by a BMW driven by a 29-year-old man from San Jose.

As per the report, Dereje and the Aveo driver, a 24-year-old Livermore woman suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. The two were taken to hospitals for treatment.

The driver of the BMW did not suffer any major injuries in the crash.

Reportedly, Dereje was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The incident remains under investigation.
